Construction Plus Interior Design

This project was especially fun for Kanga because we not only renovated this house from top to bottom on the construction side of things but we also helped the homeowners with the interior design aspects as well.  They wanted a “coastal chic” feel for their new home which as you can see from the “before” photos below this called for a drastic change. This entire project started simply because they wanted to get rid of the existing spiral staircase. Once we started the staircase renovation they couldn’t help but want to do more so we also removed the existing tile floors and installed beautiful reclaimed oak wood flooring throughout. A shiplap feature wall was installed in the living room and plantation shutters added to all of the windows. The unwanted spiral staircase was removed and replaced with a gorgeous wooden staircase with recessed lights built into the stair treads. The kitchen now has a much brighter and cleaner feel with the choice of classic white subway tiles and white shaker cabinets along with a beautiful quartz countertop. The old window AC units were removed and replaced with ductless air conditioning systems. The old track lighting was removed and replaced with recessed lighting to really complete this update. Let’s just say the homeowners are extremely happy that they did not just stop at the staircase as originally planned. And with the help from our in-house design team’s choices from woven seagrass furnishings to some small seashell accents we were able to really give the homeowners that “coastal chic” look they desired. Below are some of the before and after highlights.

Key Haven Kitchen & Bathrooms Remodel

November 14th, 2017 Posted by Bathroom, Cabinets, Construction, Kitchen, Lighting, Remodel, Renovation, Tile No Comment yet

This kitchen and two bathrooms were definitely in need of an update…

We removed the soffits and got rid of the dated “popcorn” ceiling. We then added all new recessed lighting and pendant lights to really brighten up the space and give it a more elegant modern look. We replaced the old faux wood cabinets with white shaker cabinets which really brightens up the space and the light blue glass backsplash tile provides a gorgeous little pop of color against the new white cabinets. The quartz countertop we installed is not only beautiful but very durable as well which is what our clients were seeking for this vacation rental. We replaced all windows and doors throughout the home with hurricane impact doors and windows. We replaced the old square floor tiles throughout the entire home with beautiful wood plank tiles. These give you the look of wood floors but are heavy duty and very durable for this high traffic vacation rental. We also updated the kitchen with all new appliances plus new sink and faucet. What a transformation!

By removing the old bathtub and shower curtain combo and replacing it with a new glass shower enclosure we were able to give both of these bathrooms a much cleaner and brighter look. That along with lightening things up by using white shaker style cabinets has really made both of these smaller bathrooms appear more spacious.

This bathroom was in desperate need of an update. We started by removing the existing shower wall and curtain combo and replacing it with a glass shower enclosure. This bathroom actually had ample space to begin with but the design choices did not make it appear so. By removing the shower wall and installing a glass shower enclosure we were able to make the bathroom feel much larger. The gorgeous square glass tiles we used in the shower give a beautiful pop of color. We also replaced the old dark floor tiles with a travertine tile to once again brighten up this space. The cabinets were handmade by Kanga in our woodworking shop out of a beautiful Walnut and topped off with a gorgeous quartz countertop. To finish off this much needed update we replaced the old built-in tub with a modern freestanding tub and added recessed lighting throughout to really show off all the new design choices.

Old Town Kitchen Remodel

September 14th, 2016 Posted by Cabinets, Construction, Kitchen, Lighting, Remodel, Renovation, Tile, Woodworking No Comment yet

We gave this outdated kitchen a new life. We removed the soffits and lofted the ceiling to give this kitchen more height. We also removed walls at either end of the kitchen to really open up the space. At one end we replaced the exterior wall with a glass door to allow easy access to the porch as well as provide plenty of natural light. To do this we needed to move the stove to the adjacent wall. We also replaced the existing wood floor with a fun black and white checkered tile. We then replaced the existing green cabinets with white shaker style cabinets for a much cleaner and brighter look. The three old smaller windows in the kitchen were removed and replaced with a large Euro-Wall accordion style folding window which fully opens allowing the outside and inside to become one. And the other wall that was removed now lets the kitchen flow straight into the dining room creating a nice open floor plan. Such an amazing transformation of this space!
